Devotions and Prayers

 The Angelus

V/. The Angel of the Lord brought tidings unto Mary,
R/. And she conceived by the Holy Ghost.

Hail Mary, full of grace, the Lord is with thee. (Lk 1:28) Blessed art thou among women, and blessed is the fruit of thy womb, Jesus. (Lk 1:42). Holy Mary, Mother of God, pray for us sinners, now and at the hour of our death. Amen.
V/. "Behold the handmaid of the Lord."
R/. "Be it unto me according to thy Word."

Hail Mary, full of grace...
V/. And the Word was made flesh,
R/. And dwelt among us.

Hail Mary, full of grace...
V/. Pray for us, O Holy Mother of God.
R/. That we may be made worthy of the promises of Christ.

Let us pray: We beseech thee, O Lord, pour thy grace into our hearts, that as we have known the Incarnation of thy Son Jesus Christ by the message of an angel, so by His Cross and Passion we may be brought unto the glory of His Resurrection; through the same Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.

O God, dearest and best, may the increase of Thy accidental glory be the chief end of my life!
May Thy ever blessed making will be the law of my being and of all my actions and desires!
May Thy transforming and uniting love be the permanent and imperative motive of all my actions, duties, labors, thoughts, and words!
May the life of my blessed Lord be the model and mould of my own, that being melted by penitence, I may be recast and recreated in Thee!
May the Holy Spirit so rule and govern my interior, all my emotions, fears, hopes, sorrows, and joys, that I may rest peacefully in Thee, and be an instrument for the conversion of others!
Amen.                                                                                                                                                                                         Bishop Grafton

O God, forasmuch as without thee we are not able to please thee;
 Mercifully grant that thy Holy Spirit may in all things direct and rule our hearts;
 through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.

O worship the Lord in the beauty of holiness;

 let the whole earth stand in awe of him.

Almighty God, to whom all hearts are open,

all desires known,

and from whom no secrets are hid:

cleanse the thoughts of our hearts

by the inspiration of your Holy Spirit,

that we may perfectly love you,

and worthily magnify your holy name;

through Christ our Lord.

Most merciful God, we pray

for those who doubt your love;

for those who find it difficult to believe or to pray;

for those who have lost a faith they once possessed.

may the Holy Spirit enlighten their minds

and lead them into all truth,

through Jesus Christ our Lord.

Open our eyes, O God, to your glory,

that we may worship in spirit and in truth,

and offer you the praise of glad and thankful hearts.

O magnify the Lord with me, and let us exalt his name together.

Grant us, O God, to see in all the beauty of the world around us the reflection of your own eternal glory. Open our eyes to all the signs of your love, and enable us so to live that we may hold all created things in reverence for your sake who made them; through Jesus Christ our Lord.

Lord God, whose we are and whom we serve, help us to glorify you this day in all the thoughts of our hearts, in all the words of our lips, and in all the works of our hands, as becomes those who are your servants, through Jesus Christ our Lord.

O Lord, whose mercy reaches to the heavens, whose faithfulness knows no end: let the greatness of your love be known to us, that we may worship you with wonder, joy and thanksgiving.

O God, who hast prepared for them that love thee such good things as pass man’s understanding: pour into our hearts such love toward thee, that we, loving thee above all things, may obtain thy promises, which exceed all that we can desire; through Jesus Christ our Lord.

God is love, and he who abides in love abides in God,

and God abides in him.

Come, Lord Jesus, and reign over us as our rightful king.

Rule in our hearts and fill them with your love.

Rule in our minds and bring every thought into captivity to yourself.

Rule in our lives and make them holy like your own.

For yours is the kingdom and the power and the glory, for ever.

Father, we thank you that you so loved the world

 that in the fullness of time

          you sent your only Son to be our Saviour.

He was conceived through the power of the Holy Spirit

          and was born of the Virgin Mary,

          a man like us in all things but sin.

To the poor he proclaimed the good news of salvation,

          to prisoners, freedom,

          to those in sorrow, joy.

In fulfilment of your will

          he gave himself up to death;

but by rising from the dead

          he destroyed death and restored life.

And that we might live no longer for ourselves but for him,

he sent the Holy Spirit from you, Father,

          as his first gift to those who believe,

          to complete his work on earth

          and bring us the fullness of grace.

Therefore, O God, we give you thanks and glory,

          now and for evermore.

Almighty and most merciful Father; we have erred, and strayed from thy ways like lost sheep. We have followed too much the devices and desires of our own hearts.  We have offended against thy holy laws. We have left undone those things which we ought to have done; and we have done those things which we ought not to have done; and there is no health in us.  But thou, O Lord, have mercy upon us, miserable offenders. Spare thou them, O God, which confess their faults. Restore thou them that are penitent; according to thy promises declared unto mankind in Christ Jesus our Lord.  And grant, O most merciful Father, for his sake; that we may hereafter live a godly, righteous, and sober life, to the glory of thy holy Name. Amen.

May God in his infinite love and mercy

bring the whole Church,

living and departed in the Lord Jesus,

to a joyful resurrection

and the fulfilment of his eternal kingdom.

Eternal Lord God,

before the brightness of whose presence the angels veil their faces:

with lowly reverence we acknowledge your infinite glory,

Father, Son, and Holy Spirit,

one God, blessed for ever and ever.
